New Moroccan Style : The Art of Sensual Living New Moroccan Style is a treat for the eyes, palate, and imagination. New Moroccan Style, reveals four emerging trends in this world of design: Delirium, Fusion, Minimalism, and Repose. Living in Morocco: Design from Casablanca to Marrakesh Morocco is an exhilarating combination of vivid sensuality and intense spirituality, an intoxicating blend of cultures. Morocco is known for fine leather and pottery that dates back a thousand years. Berber rugs and a thriving tradition of woodworking, especially in the native thuya wood. Most extraordinary, though, is Morocco's decorative painting and tilework, where, forbidden by religion to depict human figures, craftsmen have developed a vocabulary of pattern and ornament. Filled with brightly colored ceilings, decorated courtyards and walls, plaster of Paris carved and painted in intricate geometrics, tiles so small that 150 could fit in a matchbox. Lavishly illustrated chapters on decorative and folk arts alternate with chapters on Moroccan life today. We visit Chaouen in the Rif Mountains (a city only recently open to Westerners), where the town's undulating surfaces are painted a bone-chilling blue-tinted white. We peer into an abandoned kasbah in the Sahara, and absorb the sights, sounds, and smells of the frenzied souk. Take time out in the shady blue-and-pink environs of the Majorelle Gardens, and explore the story behind La Mamounia, the famous hotel that has welcomed such guests as Winston Churchill. Morocco's arts brought to life - from former harems to traditional Hispano-Moorish houses. Glorious photographs make this a treasure for the armchair traveler, while the documentation of Morocco's houses , arts, and crafts make it an invaluable resource for decorators and designers. Dreaming of Jeannie : TV's Prime Time in a Bottle And for a bit of trivia: In one episode, the extensive veil from her headpiece wrapped about her midsection and hid her pregnancy. Eden's first husband would later play the wicked genie - 'The Blue Djinn' - who imprisoned Jeannie in the first color episode of the series. As a HUGE Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie fan I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. FANTASTIC! So much detail and behind-the-scenes info you won't find anywhere else. Dreaming of Jeannie includes a lot of information and great pictures, the book is also well written. If you love Jeannie, then you'll love this book! I Dream of Jeannie TV Show Funny comedy about a genie named Jeannie that was locked inside a bottle for 2000 years. Astronout Major Anthony Nelson's spaceship crashes on a deserted island. He finds a bottle on the beach and a beautiful Genie (Jeannie)! Jeannie swore that whoever set her free from the bottle would become her master. Jeannie can make all Major Nelson's wishes come true, but, Jeannie's magic always gets him into trouble. I Dream Of Jeanie The TV Series On Video I love I Dream Of Jeannie. Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman did a great job of portraying their characters and making them seem real . . . . Barbara Eden did a good job playing both Jeannie & her sister. Harem The details of everyday life in a wealthy sultan's harem will stun your senses. Dinners were set on velvet cloths embroidered with silver. The napkin rings were mother-of-pearl set with diamonds. The sherbet might have been concocted from the essence of violets or roses, as well as more commonplace fruit juices. And the clothing! Veils of sheerest muslin, tasseled caps of velvet embroidered with pearls, trousers of Bursa silk, vests and girdles encrusted in precious stones. Even the color of a lady's handkerchief could convey an unspoken message, rather like the Victorian Language of Flowers. Red signified passionate love. Purple meant 'suffering from love.' A torn, burned handkerchief signaled that its owner was dying of heartache. Wives, concubines, and female relatives were not the only inhabitants of a rich man's harem. There were also the eunuchs. The author goes into quite a bit of detail (as she does with everything in this wonderful book) about the different types of eunuchs and how they were created. Male readers might even want to skip this chapter since it involves verbs like 'bruising and crushing,' 'dragging,' 'twisting,' and 'searing.' Create a tent look by hanging gossamer from a ring or disk that is attached to the
ceiling above the center of the area to be decorated. Adhere one end of the gossamer
to the ring, disk or chandelier, and the other end to the wall using a
staple gun. Allow the material to drape. Repeated throughout the room, this decorating
method will create a gorgeous, fairy-tale effect. |
Create a tent ceiling with fabric or Gossamer, both great for creating gorgeous ceilings, the cost and effort for
covering the ceiling is minimal, but the finished look is dramatic. |
Then cover the overhang around the wall edges by stapling more gossamer on top so
the fabric hangs down the walls. You can then get creative with trimmings, lanterns,
christmas lights, velcro is also good to hang items onto the fabric walls. |
